Joe Schmitt is the Director of Distribution Operations at The Louisville Water Company. He is responsible for directing and managing maintenance operations, emergency responders, warehouse operations, and fleet operations to ensure uninterrupted water service throughout 4,200 miles of transmission and distribution system piping serving over 850,000 customers in a three-county area and wholesale customers outside the three-county area. He is accountable for the development and implementation of proper work management processes that utilize both an in-house Union workforce as well as community contractors to ensure all employees within the operation follow OSHA and KDOW regulations concerning personal safety and water quality requirements.
Prior to joining LWC, Joe’s careers included several years in the Cincinnati Laborers Union Local 265. There he worked primarily on structural slab projects and foundation work. After graduating from Ball State University Joe pursued a career in the environmental remediation field. There he worked across the country on many large and small scale projects remediating contaminated soil and groundwater.
Joe holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Ball State University in Muncie, In.
Being raised in a construction trade household Joe learned the true meaning of an honest day’s work. His father is retired from and brother is currently a member of Cincinnati Carpenters Union Local 2.
As a Director at Louisville Water Joe has a goal of supporting and promoting the already strong and well established labor management partenship within the organization.
